Juan Federico Fischer

Juan Federico Fischer is the managing partner of Fischer & Schickendantz. Both a lawyer and an MBA, he manages the firm’s foreign investment consulting unit, advising multinationals and individual investors in foreign direct investments in real estate developments, acquisition of local companies, agricultural enterprises and privatizations.

In his twenty years as a corporate attorney, Juan has accumulated experience in a vast array of cross border deals, including real estate investments, setup of new ventures, and acquisitions.

Juan Federico graduated from Uruguay’s Catholic University’s School of Law in 1995, and in 2002, he obtained an M.B.A. degree from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, where he majored in strategy and finance. Juan is fluent in Spanish, English, and French.

Juan was born in France and besides Uruguay, has lived in Washington D.C., New York, Chicago, London, and Central America. His overseas work experience spans deals in the United States, Canada, most of South America, Mexico, Panama, Britain, Spain, Italy, and Romania.

He lectures globally on foreign investment in Uruguay, and is a permanent source on investment conditions in Uruguay to international publications.

Juan Ignacio Troccoli

Juan Ignacio Troccoli is the Tax Senior Partner. He manages the Tax, Corporate and Accounting Department of the firm, integrated by 15 CPAs and 45 auditing and support staff. He specializes in advising local and foreign clients on fiscal, finance and accounting topics, cross border transactions, international tax structures and setting up operations within Uruguay to serve worldwide clients. Also Juan advises several multilateral institutions such as the World Bank Group and the National Industrial Chamber in Uruguay.

In his 19 years as a certified public accountant, Juan has accumulated experience in a vast array of cross border deals.

Juan Ignacio Troccoli graduated from the University of the Republic as a certified public accountant in 2000, and in 2005 he obtained a Master degree in Law and Tax Practice from the University of Montevideo. He also obtained a Corporate Law Certificate at the Austral University (Argentina) in 2005, he completed an International Aspects of Taxation course at Georgetown University in 2010, and completed an International Taxation Course at the Austral University in 2012. Juan is fluent in Spanish, English and Portuguese.

He lectured from 1999 to 2003 at the University of the Republic of Uruguay, as head professor of the course “Introduction to Accounting” and “Basic Accounting”; and since 2001, head professor at the ORT University in the course of Taxes. He also lectures in the masters degree in Taxes and Accounting in the courses of “Income and Wealth Taxes” and “Financing Decisions and Tax Effects”.


Our Litigation division handles complex cases, involving local and cross-border issues, and among many recognitions, Fischer & Schickendantz’s litigation team obtained the first ruling by a Uruguayan court on international lis pendens in 2013, a leading case on behalf of a Fortune 100 corporation, and a significant landmark on behalf of foreign investment. Our arbitration experience extends beyond borders, with our main litigators having past and current multi-million dollar engagements in arbitration processes locally and in foreign venues, including London. The firm’s Tax and Incorporation department manages hundreds of local and offshore corporations, advises foreign investors setting up operations in Uruguay’s dozen tax-free trade zones, and our partners regularly speak at global seminars, including the leading global Offhsore Investment Conference. Federico Formento


Federico Formento both an Attorney and a Notary Public, he manages the Commercial and Corporate Law Unit, advising multinationals and individual investors in commercial and industrial projects, real estate developments, acquisition of local companies and privatizations. In his years as a corporate attorney, Federico has accumulated experience in a vast array of cross border deals, including real estate investments, setup of new ventures and acquisitions.

Federico graduated from the Universidad de Montevideo - School of Law in 2006. In 2008, he obtained a Master Degree in Business Law and in 2009 a Master Degree in Real Estate Law. Federico has lived abroad in Brazil, United States and Israel. His overseas work experience spans deals in the United States and most of South America. Federico is fluent in Spanish, English, Portuguese and French.

Federico has cooperated with major publications such as “Doing Business” (World Bank), “Consultor” (a Uruguayan business law magazine), among others. He was the first Uruguayan contributor for the British “Corporate Immigration Law Review”, published in more than 70 countries in the five continents. He has also collaborated with Kluwer, a major publication in commercial arbitration affairs.
