Linking legal minds across continents – Gonzalo Soto’s story
Gonzalo Soto is the co-founder of WSC Legal in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
His practice focuses on business and corporate law, handling corporate transactions, mergers and acquisitions, debt restructuring, and contracts for goods, services, licensing, distribution, advertising and sponsorships.
WSC Legal is widely recognised for representing multinational companies, providing guidance on cross-border investments and reconciling common law and civil law approaches.
As Argentina’s only truly integrated multijurisdictional legal practice with attorneys licensed in Argentina, France, Spain and the U.S. (California, New York, Minnesota), the firm is unique in the local marketplace.
Gonzalo first heard about Lexlink at a Penn Carey Law alumni gathering on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. He was approached by the network’s then President, fellow alumnus Nils Pettersen-Hagh, who encouraged him to join.
Gonzalo became a member in 2014 and later served on the Lexlink Board. In an effort to expand the network’s presence in Latin America, he invited Maristela Rossetti from Brazil, who today serves as Lexlink President.
He explained that during his time in the Lexlink Network so far, one of his most memorable experiences was the AGM in Romania.
“During a bus ride around Transylvania, we decided to rethink and shift Lexlink’s approach to international business,” he recalls.
“It was a foundational moment, and I feel I was able to make my contribution.”
Lexlink membership has supported both his professional growth and the development of WSC Legal.
“Regular interaction with experienced lawyers from diverse markets and legal systems has enriched my perspective on legal practice, cultural approaches to client service and practical business issues,” he explains.
The network has also helped the firm attract talent, including a recent intern from France who works at Lex Avocats, another Lexlink member.
Gonzalo maintains close professional connections across the network, including Maristela Sabbag Abla and Gil Rossetti in Brazil and Federico Formento in Uruguay.
Gonzalo believes that the network’s structure is one of the best things about Lexlink.
“Clients referred through Lexlink often perceive these recommendations as higher quality and more trustworthy because they come through established relationships.
“Being part of a global legal alliance signals to clients and peers that your firm meets certain standards of professionalism, English-language communication, and international cooperation.”
When asked if he had experienced any unexpected benefits from his membership, Gonzalo cited the opportunity for collaborative growth.
“In late 2022, Lexlink was considering a change in its administrative structure, so I proposed Lara Muscolini, our long-time in-house translator, as Secretary General.
“She now helps streamline administrative processes, supports recruitment, manages social media and marketing, and facilitates communication among members.
“This has been a very positive experience for both Lexlink and WSC Legal, deepening our engagement with the network and reinforcing our commitment to collaborative growth.”
Looking ahead, he hopes to see the network expand further in Latin America.
