Gaining international experience – Fernand Sainero’s legal internship

Fernand Sainero, WSC Legal’s current intern from France, has been keen to gain international experience since beginning his legal education.

Having completed a Master’s degree in Economic Law specialising in companies, markets and regulation, Fernand passed the French Bar exam in 2025 and is currently completing the mandatory training required for admission to the French Bar.

His academic background has been shaped by a strong international focus, including a Latin America-oriented program at Sciences Po, an exchange semester at the University of California, Berkeley and a legal internship in Morocco.

“This journey has strengthened my desire to build a legal career with an international dimension,” Fernand says.

“Recently, however, my law school described the French Bar training program as ‘undoubtedly your last opportunity to gain international experience.’ Personally, I hope it will be the opposite.”

As a dual French and Spanish national, Fernand has always been interested in developing a legal practice with an international and multicultural dimension.

“The legal profession can sometimes appear so inward-looking that it seems to exclude any possibility of pursuing a career abroad.” Notes Fernand. “Still, international qualification pathways exist, as do cross-border cases requiring professionals with bicultural expertise.

“This is why I am particularly grateful to have been welcomed by the WSC Legal team in Buenos Aires, allowing me to deepen my understanding of international legal practice – this time from an Argentinian perspective.”

Practising law far from home, in another language, is something that Fernand finds equally challenging and rewarding both personally and professionally.

The internship has been successful so far in enhancing Fernand’s approach to law and preparing him for the international work he wants to do.

“I hope to build a career that goes beyond the knowledge of a single legal system by combining technical expertise with the ability to work across jurisdictions, communicate in different languages and understand diverse cultural perspectives.”
